Future Directions

In the next stage of growth, NewsLink will strive to bridge the communication gaps shared by professionals in the fields of migratory bird and wetland habitat conservation.

Are there tools used by professionals in bird conservation which have not been used by those working in wetlands, and vice a versa? What communication methods can strengthen shared conservation goals? Can NewsLink be restructured to help? Based on priority issues NewsLink will continue to reexamine itself to determine how it can be modified to better serve and benefit these groups.

Background

NewsLink was founded in July 1999 to facilitate an exchange of information between a group of wetland organizations under the name of the International Wetlands Coordinating Council. At that time, Jon Kusler brought together a group of wetland professionals who expressed frustration that they lacked wetland information from other parts of the world. NewsLink was originally created to answer that need. It has expanded beyond this group and now serves subscribers from 35 countries.
